I work on data governance automation at Cognizant, writing Python that validates and moves metadata between catalog platforms. On my own time I build LLM applications: retrieval-augmented generation systems in Python and FastAPI, and a guitar-effects plugin with a local language model behind it.

The two kinds of work overlap more than they look like they would. Both depend on knowing where data came from and checking that it is right before anyone relies on it.
